ThankDunes: What We’re Thankful for This Year

General News|November 23rd, 2020

2020 has been a challenging year for everyone — in more ways than one. With what can seem like the weight of the world on our shoulders, it’s easy to get discouraged and dispirited.

That’s why, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, we wanted to take a moment to focus on what we’re thankful for, right here in the Silver Lake area.

What We’re Thankful for in 2020

Nature

This year — and every year — we in the Silver Lake Area are fortunate enough to have scenic splendor all around us. From the Silver Lake Sand Dunes and the shores of Lake Michigan, to the many streams and rivers and miles of countryside, all you have to do is step outside and look. Beauty is everywhere, and it’s free.

Community

Our community, too, is surely something to be thankful for. Our courageous healthcare workers and first responders have been fearless in the face of this pandemic. Likewise, we would be lost without our public service, postal, and sanitation workers.

Of course, our schools and teachers have stepped up and gone above and beyond as well, ensuring that students far and wide have access to food, learning materials, and other essential resources.

Local Businesses

Among the many economic challenges we’ve faced, local businesses, too, have supported each other and the community, coming up with creative solutions and sharing ideas in order to serve area residents and visitors alike.

From the outstanding work of local farms and farmers who have continued to supply us, and the country, with great produce, to the many shops, restaurants, and businesses who have strived to stay open, we offer a wholehearted thank you.

What Are You Thankful For?

Showing gratitude in any form is a great way to inspire happiness in ourselves and others. We’d love to know what makes you thankful for the Silver Lake area!

Is it watching a beautiful sunset over Lake Michigan?

Feeling the wind whip through your hair as you sail over the dunes on a dune buggy?

That feeling of setting up camp at the very beginning of summer?

Or maybe it’s the food, the people, or the general atmosphere of lakeside living.

There’s so much to be thankful for in our beautiful area — from those little moments to the big events. And we want to hear what means the most to you!

Share your #ThinkDunes tribute on Instagram and Facebook, and don’t forget to include pictures of your favorite memories!

Silver Lake Welcomes You

While long-distance trips and large family gatherings may not be quite so common this holiday season, remember that you’re always welcome in Silver Lake.

Area businesses, including hotels and motels, restaurants, and shops are taking the utmost precautions to protect their guests and visitors. And with the vast outdoor spaces our region has to offer, it’s easier than ever to social distance and get some fresh air.

The holidays will certainly look a little different this year, but there are still many ways to safely and happily enjoy the spirit of the season.
