Throughout Silver Lake, Hart, and Mears, you’ll find all the things you need for a seamless, easy vacation plus attractions & recreation, shopping & dining, community services & activities, events & festivals, and much more!

Unlike vacations to the big city or crowded tourist areas along the lakeshore, our region retains that laid-back, small town charm we’re known best for. And because of our convenient location “Up North” (but not too far north!), you won’t waste your entire vacation in the car.

We’re fully staffed by area volunteers with a passion for helping you make the most of your time in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes area. The Visitor Information Center also has numerous brochures, maps, and other valuable information about the area.

Neighboring Communities

In close proximity to Silver Lake, Hart, and Mears are several other area villages with their own unique character and charm.

Hart

Discover great food, a rich history, friendly people and all the conveniences when you visit Hart, Michigan.  Located just seven miles east of Silver Lake, its downtown is a great place for shopping, eating and entertainment.  There are three grocery stores including an authentic Mexican grocery, auto parts stores, a car wash, banks, lodging, and enough dining options for you to “eat your Hart out”!

New Era

New Era is a warm and welcoming village with quiet streets, active small businesses, good schools, and friendly neighbors. Picturesque and surrounded by peaceful orchards and farmland, New Era is close-knit with just under 600 residents. Stroll through its streets and you may think you’ve travelled back in history to a more peaceful, quieter time.

Pentwater

Pentwater is an historic village located just north of Hart along the Lake Michigan lakeshore. Marinas, shopping, restaurants, a public beach, village green, and more surround its quaint and welcoming downtown streets.

Shelby

Located 10 minutes south of Hart on Oceana Drive, Shelby is home to many local stores and businesses, including the famous Shelby Gem Factory. Surrounding agriculture also plays a significant role in local industry. Like Hart and Mears, Shelby is also one of the stops on the William Field Memorial Bike Trail, a popular attraction for bikers, hikers, joggers, and snowmobilers.

Walkerville

The Walkerville area is comprised primarily of rural farming communities. Those who do not work on local farms are generally employed in surrounding cities. Find dining, services, and schools in their convenient downtown area.
