Tin Man Sculpture in Hart

While in Hart, be sure to stop by The Commons to see the 24-foot-high Tin Man sculpture. Get your photo with this charming sculpture holding a huge heart in the Hart Commons Parking lot in Downtown Hart. This sculpture was commissioned by Bill Secunda, a five-time Art Prize artist and sculptor to help the Tin Man “find his Hart.”

LL Forge is a traditional blacksmithing and blade smithing forge in Shelby offering a glimpse into the past at a centuries-old craft. Hiking and Biking Trails

Silver Lake is home to 30-plus miles of regional trail network and county parks for reconnecting with nature on hiking and biking trails during the colorful fall season. You don’t need to have your own bikes, Oceana Bike & Boat has rentals that make trail exploration easy. You can pick up the Hart-Montague Trail just a short distance from the shop.

Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail

An accessible, paved, 22.5-mile trail covering 225 acres that passes through rural, forested lands, featuring scenic overlooks and picnic areas located along the route. Available for biking and hiking year-round.

Pentwater Pathways

Explore this 15-mile trail network with varied loop difficulty and mostly slow-rolling hills offering a fall color view from beneath the trees.

 

Parks and Nature Areas

Marshville Dam County Park

Located in Benona Township along Stoney Creek is a 10-acre rustic park. It is an undeveloped natural area that is the perfect spot for your fall exploration. Enjoy a picnic, fishing, and wildlife viewing.

Gale’s Pond County Park in Hart

This beloved county park is located 5 miles southeast of Hart. If you have just an hour or so, this is a great spot to enjoy the sight of sandhill cranes, ducks, and other wildlife on well-marked nature trails.

Doolittle County Park in Hart

This county park, located in Hart, features nature trails traversing 40 acres of land. You will find the wooded setting of Doolittle County Park offers a calm break away from the hustle and bustle of the busy season. If you step softly, you may encounter the wildlife that call this park home.

Ruckel’s Bridge Trail

This 2.3-mile looped trail is found near the base of the sand dunes in Mears. It is a perfect spot for hiking, biking, and birding. The northern end of the loop provides a spectacular view of the dunes.

Crystal Valley Pathway-Trails

Fall trail

This 9.6-mile trail system offers 4 looped trails to choose from at varying challenge levels. You will find Crystal Valley to be a colorful walk through the woods during the fall season. These well-maintained trails are also a popular destination in the winter months for cross-country skiing.

Silver Lake State Park

The park closes at the end of October; however, you can still hike in the park along the lighthouse beach and in the Pedestrian area all winter! Fat biking season also begins in the Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) area on December 15 and continues through March 15.

Stoney Creek Nature Preserve

This 40-acre area is located along Stony Creek and will be open to the public in October 2025. The Oceana Conservation District staff and volunteers have developed signage and trails while also inventorying plants and animals. The preserve was a well-loved property of the Morse family for being a rare place where you “can hear and feel the quiet.”

Genevieve Casey Nature Sanctuary

This land was permanently protected by the Michigan Nature Association in 2000. Three habitats are found in this 53-acre sanctuary: a large marsh in the north, groves of pine and cedar in the south, and a low-shrub and lichen barren area that lies in the center. It is a peaceful sanctuary that welcomes you to come explore.
