Winding The Silver Lake Sand Dunes Season Down

Attractions|September 20th, 2017

The kids are back in school and the temperature has begun its cruel, chilly descent. While our time for playing on the dunes dwindles, let’s not forget that this period is still an opportune time for some fun in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area.

The crowds diminish following Labor Day, clearing space on the dunes for the fanatical riders. The dunes remain accessible through October 31st, so grab your hoodie and get on out there on those 2,000 acres of magnificent sand.

The entire area feels more relaxed with autumn’s arrival. As the leaves transition in color the area’s atmosphere follows suit. And fall color is absolutely a gorgeous sight around the area. You’ll witness numerous panoramic views zipping around on the dunes that are replete with heaps of gorgeous fall orange, crimson, and gold.

There’s lots of radiant fall color to explore around here, too. While the dunes offer a unique perspective, the area’s trails are also perfect for enjoying some autumn nature. There’s the Hart-Montague Rail Trail, which is a paved path that runs for 22.5 miles. This trail really highlights all of Oceana County’s beauty. For everyone who loves a fall bike ride, this one is can’t miss. Be sure to not rush right on pass the scenic overlooks along the trail.

While a visit to Little Sable Lighthouse is a summertime staple in the area, exploring this area in the fall can be a beautiful experience. Hike around during sunset and take in all the glowing colors meshed with sights and sounds of Lake Michigan.

The best-kept secret in all of Hart, John Gurney Park, is also a fabulous spot for fall-time relaxation. When you want some quiet moments, this truly is the place to go.

Numerous attractions in the area are also still running. Mac Woods Dune Rides, for example, provides rides through Oct. 8. Lewis Farms & Petting Zoo remains a great place to bring the kids – it’s open through Oct. 31 and the corn maze is tremendous fun. For some adult autumn fun, Fox Barn continues serving up unforgettable wine in its gorgeous location.

Fall in Michigan, especially in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area, is no time for a retreat indoors. Explore the color, ride the dunes, get lost in a maze, and enjoy some wine.
