Agri-Tourism in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area
The dunes draw countless thrill-seeking visitors each year. A summer without a zip around the Silver Lake Sand Dunes isn’t much of a summer. While this playground can endlessly entertain, the fact that the area is agriculturally rich only further cements the region as an oasis of fun.
The Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area boasts a variety of agriculture-related offerings that are great family activities.
Country Dairy is a must visit to satiate your summertime ice cream cravings. The working farm, located in New Era, milks over a thousand cows three times daily. The milk is bottled on-site, and cheese, ice cream, and butter are also made from the cows. Visitors can also tour the bottling facility, Show Barn, and Moo School. The on-site ice cream parlor offers 32 flavors of hand-dipped ice cream.
When you’re ready to make the switch from ice cream to wine and cheese make your way to Fox Barn Market & Winery in Shelby. Resting on 2,000 acres of land that is 3/4th planted to fruit (and some asparagus), it’s a unique setting that also features a restored antique barn. Relax on the patio, try some wine and snack on some cheese all the while you enjoy the views.
Need to keep the kids occupied? You’ll find a family-fun atmosphere at Lewis Farm Market. As the largest petting farm in West Michigan, you’ll fine more than 70 animals to pet or admire. Additionally, the 700-acre farm features a multitude of games and activities, such as jumping pillows, barrel train rides, pedal carts, and much more. You can also pick up some fruit grown right on the farm in the market directly on site.
And it’s not solely agriculture attractions in the area. Agriculture-based festival and events are also prominent – and one of those festivals is rapidly approaching.
The Apple & BBQ Festival returns to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes September 9th and 10th. The festival comprises a slew of events, that range from apple pie contests to dune buggy shows and beyond. Michigan-grown apples, savory BBQ and dune riding? Now that’s a festival! Enjoy the food, take in the live music, and admire dune buggys, classic cars, and classic trucks.
The dunes and the beach can captivate for hours on end. However, the fun isn’t solely found there. When you start exploring the area you discover an area rich with agriculture and attractions. It’s a worthy expedition during your Silver Lake Sand Dunes stay.
