A Bittersweet End to Summer in Silver Lake

ThinkDunes|October 2nd, 2019

While the splendor of fall is always welcome in Silver Lake, we also can’t help but reflect on what a great summer season it’s been.

The Annual Jeep Invasion, much-anticipated Bronco Takeover, and plenty of fun at our annual 4th of July Festivities were all wonderful highlights this year. Finally, the season culminated with an awesome turnout at this year’s Apple & BBQ Cook-Off Festival. But even though jackets and boots are replacing sundresses and sandals, it’s important to remember that there’s still plenty of fun to be had in the Silver Lake Area.

Here are some of our favorite fall activities to enjoy this month:

One Last Trip to the Dunes

The Silver Lake Dunes don’t officially close until October 31st — with only slightly altered “Late Season Hours”: Sept. 15th – Oct 31st, 9 am – 8 pm daily — meaning there’s still time to head out on the sand.

  • Take a walk in the Pedestrian Area (use this map).
  • Load up your Jeep or Bronco for a final trip out in the ORV area.
  • Take advantage of shorter lines and rent your own dune buggy for the day (just be sure to check seasonal hours).

Boutique Shopping in Downtown Hart

Plan a day with the girls or take your little ones out for a fun day in Downtown Hart. Although most Silver Lake businesses have closed for the season, the shops in Hart are still open for business.

While you’re in town, take a break to enjoy a warm bowl of soup at Soup of the Day Café or a tasty Mexican lunch at La Fiesta. Then, once you’re all shopped out, make dinner a hot, cheesy, and delicious pizza from Hart Pizza.

Fun Fall Events

While it’s fun to reminisce about what a great summer it’s been, it’s also time to look ahead! The Silver Lake Area isn’t only known as a hot summer destination — we’ve got plenty to do during the fall as well.

Here’s what’s coming up this autumn in the Silver Lake Area:

  • Hippie Fest – Mears – October 5 @ 12 pm – 7 pm
