Celebrate July 4 with 3 Nights of Fireworks

Events & Festivals|June 15th, 2018

With the Fourth of July falling on a Wednesday in 2018, many people are celebrating our county’s freedom with a 5-day weekend. Boom!

And, of course, fireworks are a huge part of our Independence Day. They remind us that “bombs bursting in air, gave proof through the night, that our flag was still there,” as our national anthem proclaims. Boom! Boom!

The Silver Lake Sand Dunes Area has triple the fireworks for the holiday this year, with “bombs bursting in air” July 2, July 3 and July 4. Boom! Boom! Boom!

You can play all day in the mid-summer sun – there’s lots to do outdoors in Silver Lake – then have a blast at night with spectacular fireworks in downtown Hart at 10:15 p.m. Monday, July 2; over the Pentwater pier in Charles Mears State Park at dusk on Tuesday, July 3; and Thunder Over the Dunes in Silver Lake at 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 4.

It’ll be a back-to-back-to-back fireworks extravaganza:

  • Hart Sparks is a good, old-fashioned Independence Day celebration on July 2 with live music, food, games for all ages and a fireworks show that will be bigger than ever. “Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish” will play rock ‘n roll and activities include face painting, hula hooping, corn hole, disc golf, hop scotch, four-square, gaga ball and more.

  • Watch from your boat, or bring a lawn chair or blanket to the beach at Charles Mears State Park in Pentwater for a fireworks show over Lake Michigan on July 3. Pentwater’s Fourth of July celebration includes an Annual Pie Contest and Auction to raise money for scholarships, with fireworks launching from the pier at dusk.

  • Thunder Over the Dunes fireworks at 10 p.m. July 4 are shot off from atop the dunes, creating a unique effect if you watch them from across Silver Lake. Because the colorful blasts reach the eye much faster than the sound carries over the water, you’re left anticipating the boom in a fireworks experience unlike any other. You can also watch from up on the dunes.

BOOM!

Check out three consecutive nights of fireworks, each show with its own unique personality – above town, over the big lake, on the dunes – and make this year’s Fourth of July a multi-day celebration. Make plans for the holiday and find a place to stay here.
