Dining, Entertain, Shopping, and Recreation

#TakeMeToHart

Discover great food, a rich history, friendly people and all the conveniences when you visit Hart, Michigan.  Located just seven miles east of Silver Lake, its downtown is a great place for shopping, eating and entertainment.  There are three grocery stores including an authentic Mexican grocery, auto parts stores, a car wash, banks, lodging, and enough dining options for you to “eat your Hart out”!

DOWNTOWN Grab a drink to-go and enjoy sipping and shopping or dine outdoors in our Social District.  A variety of year-round events take place in Hart’s ORV-friendly downtown Hart including live music and makers market every Thursday at Hart Commons Park in the summer, a fireworks display and celebration on July 2nd, the National Asparagus Festival, Artwalk, Winterfest, the Lighted Christmas Parade, Hispanic Festival, and more.

ART & HISTORY

Dale and Gail’s Music and Art Gallery is a must-see 1920’s-style theater featuring black and white films along with the talented husband and wife duo on the organ and live outdoor performances on Fridays in the summer.  In the alley behind the gallery, you’ll find arty wall murals, gardens and outdoor dining.

At the Hart Historic District Museum and Village, guests can tour historical buildings, collections, and old-time attractions that will take you on a journey 150 years into the past.  Tour a restored 19th-century church, one-room schoolhouse, log cabin, Chief Cobmoosa’s house, Hart Train Station, an original grist, flour mill, and windmill where you can tour the animated doll display in action.  The church basement houses the Seymour Rider Indian Artifacts Collection, a must-see for antique Indian and history buffs.

FOODIES

Some consider Hart to be a “hidden gem foodie destination” with 13 family-owned restaurants and a variety of farm markets to choose from.  If you’re looking for truly authentic Mexican food, try the award-winning La Probadita, La Mexicana de Pancho or La Probadita.  We challenge you to find better deep-fried asparagus than what’s available seasonally at Open Hearth Grill & Bar or Kristsi’s Pour House.  The Big Hart Brewery’s Bloody Mary bar and homemade cheeseburgers are a must.  For the best handmade pizza in the region, try BC Pizza or experience Hart Pizza downtown with outdoor dining in the social district.  No one does breakfast better than the Pink Elephant with its fun diner-style décor.  Leave room for a fresh pastry or donut from the Bakery on the Corner but don’t leave town without a craft coffee from Stella’s Coffee House or Lakeside Coffee, Smoothie and Bagel Bar!

Looking for fresh local produce and products?  Rennhack’s Orchard Market has locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, homemade pies, jams, and more.  Up North Market offers Michigan-made products, specialty foods, craft beers, freshly cooked sandwiches and a petting zoo.  Many Blessings Market, Crosby Farm Market, and Merten’s Farm Market are all worth the quick countryside drive to find quality local produce, baked goods, handmade wares and more.

RECREATION

GOLF at the historic 27-hole Colonial Golf Course consisting of the championship 18-hole course and the nine-hole, par-3 Heritage Course.  FISH Hart Lake year-round for a variety of bluegill, largemouth and small mouth bass, northern Pike, walleye, yellow perch and more.  BIKE the 23-mile William Field Hart-Montague Trail State Park which starts in Hart with picnic areas and scenic outlooks along the way.  It is utilized by cyclists, snowmobilers, runners, walkers, and sightseers.    PLAY the Hart Hydro 18-hole DISC GOLF course, uniquely positioned along Hart Lake with a beautiful view of the dam and rolling elevation.  KAYAK or canoe along the Hart Water Trail.

CAMP or visit the historic John Gurney Park and Campground, within walking distance from downtown Hart, situated on a picturesque bluff that follows the eastern shoreline of Hart Lake.  The campground offers sites ranging from rustic to full hookup, nightly to seasonal, a camp store, playground, boat lodge, bike rentals, activity pillion, a picnic arbor, and numerous outdoor sport amenities.
